QUAR AT WAR - THE TOWN

This Wednesday we play tested my newest rules Quars at War which is based in part on a Fist Full of Lead (FFL) skirmish rules. I added my own Coin System of command and greatly modified a number of the FFL tables. I also borrowed from the Two Fat Lardies Suppression system.

In this scenario the Coftyran Crymuster, the boys in blue, engaged in a fight against the Tolkis Crusaders, the lads in green, to capture and hold as much of the town as possible. Both sides approached from the opposite sides of town, Crusaders from the East, Crymuster from the West. The Crusaders goal was to capture as much of the town as possible, while the Crymuster are similarly instructed to do the same, but focus their main efforts on taking the High Ground represented by the blue domed buildings.

Crusaders Quickly Take Control of the First Block on the East and Begin to Infiltrate the Center of the Second Block. The Blue Tokens Indicate Crusader Controlled Buildings.

The Crymuster Forces Quickly Seize the Western Side of Town as Indicated by the Brown Tokens. As the Crusaders Try to Storm Across Main Street that Divides East and West, They are Meet by Withering Fire from the Crymuster Forces.

Crusaders Rush Across the Main Street and Lob a Grenade into the Well Defended Crymuster Balcony Wounding Some and Causing a lot of Confusion to Their Enemy.

Seen from Behind the Crusaders Position. Both Sides are now Engaged in a Number of Fire Fights. While There are Few Injuries the Disruption Level, as Indicated by the Orange Blast Marker, are Piling Up on both Sides.

At Battles End the Crymuster has Dirven Back most of the Crusader Forces, except in the Key Central Domed Building.

Crusader Forces Hanging on to Their Left Flank and Central Positions. The Right has Been Heavily Mauled.

The Appalling State of the Crusader Right Flank. At the Start of the Following Turn All the Troops in the Near Building Will Need to Fall Back. Most are Carrying Wounds.

The Crymuster's Right Flank's LMG Section and Infantry Gun That Have Been Battering the Crusaders Mercilessly.
For a first run the game went rather well. My charts left a few things out that will make a few serious changes to play. The players seemed to forget a number of their special units as most lingered out of site in the rear areas. A key issue I have is the play went much slower than I wanted. In part because few Quar were killed until the very end, and because of the single section activation sequence. I need to address the later, but the kill issue was more about luck then anything mechanical. The rules have already been updated, and I will put them online when they are in a more polished state.
My real-world situation is about to become very hectic. I don't plan to run another game before August. Hopefully I will be able to play in other people's games before that. Time will tell.

NEWEST PROJECT - THE QUAR

After a much longer time then I expected due to unforeseen real-world circumstances I have completed my painting on the Quar. Quar, you say? What are Quar? Why the sentient life form of the planet Alwyd. They are Anteaters whose lives are governed by their devotion to the traditions of their ancestors. They have been engaged in almost perpetual war for the past hundred years. Their technology is that of WWI, but there are now incredible new things coming about do the changes brought by a radical thinker.

While the whole of the world is at war, my games are focused on the two core opponents, the Kingdom of Coftyr who are fighting to maintain the traditions of Kings and Emperor to rules the nations of the world, and the Maer Braech lands that now are governed more as a realm of the populist run by a dictator who has launched the Great Crusade to change all the lands into his own vision. These two factions, the Crymuster and the Crusaders are battling across the globe for the hearts and minds of everyone.

My games are centered around small unit tactics in a highly urban environment. This campaign is all about controlling the Holly City of Cearsalem. This is the spiritual center for all Quar, and its control will determine whom the Ancestors favor.

The Forces of the Crymuster. In Front are the Command Section, Followed by the Specialists and at the Rear are the Three Sections of Infantry.

Here are the Crusaders. Again, the Front Shows HQ Section, Followed by the Specialists, and then the Three Infantry Section.
I will include more details on both the units and the game system in a follow up post. For now, some images from the battlefield.

WEDNESDAY HMGS MIDWEST - BLUCHER & WWI

Since once again I have been locked out of my Eccentric blog I am switching Dog Wars to Cover all my gaming. First up this week HMGS Midwest at Games Plus are two games, Napoleonic's using Blutcher in 6mm run by Steve, and WWI Trench Raid in 28mm using home grown rules written and run by Mitch.
Opening of the Battle of Aspern-Essling. French Left Flank (Center Right) on the Interior Lines Holding Against the Austrian's Assault.

French IV Corp Holding Aspern. The Austrians have Begun Bombarding the Town and Working to Evict the French from the Nearby Woods.

The Guards Artillery and the Cavalry Corp Holding the Central Dike Position, While II Corp is Seen in Control of Essling.

Near Games End and the Austrian's Control the Woods Outside Aspern. Despite Continuous Bombardment the French Still Retain full Control of the Town. In the Center an Entire Austrian Corp has Been Repulsed.

On the Essling Front II Corp Reinforcements are Coming Across the River, while on the Flank the Cavalry Corp has Succeeded in Holding off the Austrian Infantry and Repulsed Their Cavalry. The Center is Firmly Held and the Austrian Corp Opposite is in a Highly Weakened State.
At this point the game was only in its sixth turn of thirteen when we had to call it because of time. It was a draw with both sides having lost three units of the near dozen both sides needed before their respective collapse. By games end turns were going much faster as all the players had a better understanding of the rules.
Yet again Steve put on another fantastic looking and fun to play game.
Overview of the Trenches and No Mans Land of the WWI Battle. The British and French on the Right Supported by Tanks. The Germans Waiting in Their Trench Line to the Left.

British Advancing Steadily Against the German Line. In the Background can be Seen One of the Tanks and a Gas Attack Underway.

German Lines Under an Allied Gas Attack as a Tank Nears the Wire. It is being Supported by French Infantry Who are Taking Shelter in the Nearby Craters.
The game was still going on when I left but the Allies forces had started the assaults into the German trenches. The final outcome was unknown, but everyone seemed to be having a good time, so a victory to all the players.
Games are hosted at Games Plus every Wednesday around fifty weeks a year. There is typically one large game on the 6x10 table and one small game on the standard 4x6 table. On occasion when turnout demands it a third game is also available.

LOOK! UP IN THE SKY.
